MODEL AC-500

PORTABLE SOUND SYSTEM

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Hilton's most powerful amplifier ever. This variable speed turntable and power amplifier combination is self-contained in a single case. A dual channel amplifier, each channel may be used independently or combined. Input and output jacks are adjustable, making the AC-500 compatible with any CD, MiniDisc, Tape, Computer, or other type external signal source.

FEATURES

CASE AND CHASSIS
Carrying case is constructed of 3/8" MFD wood product, sprayed with tough charcoal colored nitrocellulose paint. Case is trimmed with bright chrome metal hardware. When set up for operation, the unit is suspended on four spring loaded feet to prevent needle skipping if accidentally bumped. The outer aluminum chassis is finished with a super-hard black powder coat finish. All the major controls are mounted on the slanted front panel for easy access. Microphone, input and output signal jacks are on the front edge panel out of the way and minimizing cable strain. The heat sink is efficiently cooled by air flowing in through the bottom grill, and out the perforations on the top deck.

PRE-AMPLIFIER
The AC-500 has the outstanding sound quality only available on a Hilton sound system. Separate bass and treble controls for the music provide extremely wide latitude. Changing the music bass or treble controls has no effect on the voice program. Two identical high impedance microphone inputs are independently controlled, each with its own volume and tone control. The Hilton microphone circuitry produces extremely crisp and clear voice reproduction, so that commands and cues stand out clearly over the music background.

TAPE RECORDING AND PLAYBACK CAPABILITY
Two track recordings, with voice on one track and the music on the other, may be made using a stereo tape recorder. Each auxiliary input and output has its own volume control for matching to all recorders and players. Two output jacks on the front of the AC-500 provide the separated voice/music signals. Two input jacks are provided for playing a two track recording. Using the mic and music volume and tone controls the program can be adjusted for the best play-back of voice and music. Normal single track recordings of the combined voice/music program can be made from one of the rear output signal jacks. Two jacks are provided, one a low (microphone) output signal, the other high (line).

REMOTE TONE ARM RESET
The tone arm can be reset to any pre-selected location on a 45 RPM record or paused by pressing a button on the microphone base. This feature is very useful for teaching or repeating of a particular segment of a dance routine. An adjustable dial indicator changes the reset position.

REMOTE MUSIC VOLUME CONTROL
The music volume can be adjusted from the microphone. This feature allows the music to be increased for added excitement, or lowered to one tenth for critical commands or cues, without touching the knobs on the amplifier. A remote control assembly cord with tone arm reset and music volume controls is included.

TURNTABLE
Speed control is infinitely variable from 26 to 60 RPM. A neon lighted strobe, visible from the front, is used for a precise speed setting of 45 & 33 1/3 RPM. The turntable is directly driven on the underside by a hysteresis-synchronous gearmotor. Changes in line voltage do not effect the motor speed. The tone arm uses a high compliance ceramic cartridge. To prevent unwanted sound from vibrations the tone arm is "floated" in a rubber mount.

OUTPUT SELECTOR SWITCHES
To make the AC-500 more versatile two output mode switches are provided. A "VOLUME MODE" selector with "NORMAL" or "INCREASE". The "NORMAL" setting allows easy control of volume when high volume is not required. At the "INCREASE" setting higher volume is obtained with less movement of the control. The two amplifier channels can be operated either independently or combined by using the "MAIN/MONITOR" selector switch. When operated in the "COMBINED" mode both amplifiers are controlled simultaneously with a single set of controls.

TWIN ILLUMINATED VUEMETERS
Two 20 bar LED output indicators one for voice and one for music. These brightly lighted LEDs tell at a glance the loudness of the music, voice and the balance between them. Easily seen from a distance.

MUSIC EQUALIZER JACK
For special effects from an equalizer, pitch shifter, or other external device, a jack is provided. A stereo jack is used for combination input/output on the one jack.

VOLTAGE
Standard computer type AC power cord. Fused entrance module with off/on switch is changeable for 100, 120, 230 and 240 volt operation. MOV ® spike protection built-in. On the rear panel is a convenient switched and fused AC outlet. A power "ON" light is located on the front panel. The AC-500 will operate on either 50 or 60 Hz current. Specify if for 50 Hz as a factory adjustment is required.

ACCESSORIES
Included with the AC-500 is an extra needle, two series "Y" speaker connectors, power cord, needle cleaner, remote record reset and volume control cord assembly, protective carrying carton, name plate and instruction manual.
